At Silk Tree Nurseries, we  try to produce and provide some unique bonsai trees that you may not  find at any other nursery, as well as a range of more common varieties. We have both outdoor bonsai trees and indoor bonsai trees. Please note that  some of our less hardy bonsai trees are not kept at the nursery site.

Acer  BiHo  Golden Stem Japanese Maple Outdoor Bonsai Tree  

Acer BiHo is a  beautiful acer admired for its all year round interest, with salmon Spring leaves which turn green in Summer and then yellow in the Autumn, followed by gorgeous golden yellow stems in Winter. This is an OUTDOOR bonsai tree but can be brought in for display for a few days at a time.

This is an approx. 2ft-28inch (inc. pot) Acer BiHo Outdoor Bonsai Japanese Maple in a 30cm diameter by 13cm deep plastic display pot  . The photos show some of the ACTUAL MAPLE BONSAI TREES  on offer , taken in December  with golden Winter stems.

 Acer Orange Dream  Japanese  Maple Outdoor Bonsai Tree

Acer  palmatum  'Orange Dream' is a beautiful strong growing variety of Maple, that has lovely yellow-orange leaves in Spring, turning to green in summer, then spectacular gold and orange foliage for the autumn season. This is an OUTDOOR bonsai tree but can be brought in for display for a few days at a time.

Acer  osakazuki  Japanese Maple Outdoor Bonsai Tree  

Acer palmatum 'Osakazuki' is one of the most spectacular maples for autumn colour. Leaves of this tree turn a deep scarlet / crimson in the autumn months. It is a strong growing cultivar, which forms a nice trunk in a short time (for a maple). It is tolerant of non-acidic soil, more tolerant of wind burn in the Summer and  is a strong growing tree form Japanese maple.

Acer  senkaki (sangokaku) Coral Bark Japanese Maple Outdoor Bonsai Tree  

Acer palmatum 'Sango kaku' / 'Senkaki' is known as the 'Coral Bark Maple' due to the fabulous orange-red colour of its trunks, especially pronounced in the winter months. They have stunning canary yellow autumn leaf colour. It is a small leaved maple, and an ideal bonsai specimen. This is an OUTDOOR bonsai tree but can be brought in for display for a few days at a time.

Acer  seiryu   Japanese Maple Outdoor Bonsai Tree  

Acer seiryu Spring foliage is bright green, and very dissected, and  the Autumn colours are just breathtaking; flashes of bright orange, yellow, and red erupt all over the maple and present a fabulous bonsai spectacle.

 Acer  palmatum Japanese   Maple Bonsai FOREST Hardy Outdoor Bonsai Tree  

These stunning Japanese Maple Forest  Bonsai Trees are approx. 14inches inc. pot in a 9inch by 4inch oval ceramic blue or white display pot and ceramic tray. These are outdoor trees and can be kept outdoors in every season - place them in half shade in the summer months and water on a regular basis. Light pruning can be made during the growing months.  Ilex crenata (Japanese Holly) Outdoor Hardy Bonsai Tree

Ilex crenata is a form of Japense Holly - unlike English Holly, they have small, delicate leaves which are not sharp to the touch. It is very similar to 'box' in looks, and is also very slow growing. We are offering in limited quantity some HARDY, outdoor bonsai tree evergreen Japanese Holly in CASCADE style.

These OUTDOOR bonsai trees have green foliage all year around and can be left in the garden over winter (protect the pot and root with fleece if a hard winter is expected).

We are very pleased to be offering for the very first time this year isome simply exquisite HARDY Juniper chinensis bonsai trees. These OUTDOOR bonsai trees have green needles all year around and have shaped trunks with beautiful red/brown peeling bark.  Liquidamber styraciflua American Sweetgum  FOREST BONSAI - Outdoor Hardy

These are our FOREST American Sweetgum, Liquidamber. These OUTDOOR bonsai trees have beautiful green leaves in Spring which in Autumn turn fiery red!. These are deciduous bonsai trees, so lose all their leaves  in the dormant months, but are hardy and can be left in the garden over winter (protect the pot and root with fleece if a hard winter is expected).  Malus Apple Outdoor Hardy Bonsai Tree  

The apple tree makes a superb upright form bonsai tree and will produce apples in a good year which may hand from the tree well into winter. Pink or white blossom in Spring, green or red foliage in Spring and Summer, turning colour in autumn. Hardy. Our trees are approx. 6 years old and are approx. 15-18inches tall (inc. pot) in a plastic bonsai  display pot which is 10inches in diameter. The photos below show some of the actual trees, taken mid September with apples,  and the  photo to the left shows the beautiful Spring blossom. May be red or green leaved variety.

Metasequoia FOREST (Dawn Redwood) Outdoor Hardy Bonsai Tree  

These OUTDOOR hardy Dawn Redwood bonsai trees have beautiful green new needles in Spring, which in autumn give a magnificent display of blazing yellows and orange. Pinus densiflora - Japanese Red Pine Bonsai Tree

The beautiful Japanese Red Pine, Pinus densiflora Jane Kluis is a dwarf conifer, a hybrid cross between Pinus densiflora and Pinus thunbergii, with a low mounding habit. Stems have an attractive copper hue as they mature.  These are slow growing dwarf pines, so are the ideal subject for bonsai trees.

 Pinus parviflora Japanese White Pine  Bonsai Tree

We are very pleased to be offering  this year some exquisite Japanese White Pine Bonsai Trees. These OUTDOOR bonsai trees are very hardy and have blue needles all year around and are very slow growing. 
These are evergreen pines and and can be left in the garden over winter (protect the pot and root with fleece if a hard winter is expected).

Prunus kojo no mai Japanese Cherry  Bonsai Tree

The 'FLIGHT OF THE  BUTTERFLIES'  Japanese Cherry makes a jaw dropping display in any bonsai collection and is fully hardy in the UK. We are offering approx. 21inch high specimens (inc. pot) with 8-10inch spread of branches,  rooted in  8" by 5.5" by 2.5inch plastic rectangular bonsai display pots. A similar specimen is shown to the left.

POSITION: INDOOR OR OUTDOOR
WATERING: Water every day in hot weather - bonsai cherries can withstand some drought, but try and keep the soil moist in the growing season.
PRUNING: Leaf prune in early summer every 2 years to reduce the leaf size. Branch prune in the dormant season.

Wisteria BONSAI tree - UPRIGHT
From our expanding range of bonsai trees at Silk Tree Nurseries, we have a selection of Wisteria bonsai which are 7years and older, rooted in both high round, glazed pots and in brown round clay pots. The top photo to the left shows a Wisteria Caroline in flower, and the bottom photo shows a Wisteria Domino in flower last Spring..

Our Wisteria bonsai are 18inches-2.5ft in height including the pot, and the pots are 6-8inches in diameter and 8-10inches deep.  We have Wisteria sinensis in stock, as well as a limited number of cultivars in bonsai tree form. INDOOR BONSAI TREES

 

 Araucaria cunninghamii  - Hoop Pine (INDOOR BONSAI TREE)

We are very pleased to be offering for the first time the wonderful Hoop Pine, which is of the Araucaria family (the monkey puzzle trees are the most well known of the Araucarias, but this is very different!). These are wonderful slow growing conifers ideally suited to bonsai which form natural 'hoop' trunks with delicate evergreen foliage that weeps down.

Very easy to care for: they require NO DIRECT SUNLIGHT (so keep them in an east facing window, or in the middle of the house away from windows) and KEPT MOIST - if above a radiator then make sure you water on a regular basis. Ideal in a light kitchen windowsill that gets no sun.

The photos show the actual bonsai hoop pine on offer (we have only one left) , this is  approx. 17inches inc. pot in a 9.5inch hexagonal plastic bonsai display pot and has an approx. 20inch spread.
